Indigenes of Ngodo Isuochi in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State have raised alarm over a failed assassination attempt on their kinsman, Chaka Ikenna Chukwumerije, the Abia State Commissioner for Lands and Housing.
The attack occurred on Saturday, June 7, 2025, when unidentified gunmen ambushed Chukwumerije’s official vehicle along the Okigwe area of the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway while he was returning from his community to Umuahia. The assailants riddled the vehicle with bullets, but the commissioner miraculously escaped unharmed. In a press statement, the Ngodo Town Development Union Youth Wing (NTDUYW) condemned the attack, describing it as a “well-conceived targeted act” and alleging political motives. Signed by President Ekeledirichukwu Marvelous Agha and Secretary Obioma Anyikwa, the statement highlighted the deliberate nature of the ambush and the gunmen’s relentless pursuit of Chukwumerije after he fled the scene.
“This was not a random criminal act but a calculated attempt on the life of Hon. Chukwumerije,” the NTDUYW declared.
The community commended Governor Alex Otti for his efforts to combat insecurity and restore peace in Umunneochi, praising his achievements over the past two years and pledging continued support. They urged the governor to direct security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to unmask the masterminds behind the plot and ensure justice is served.
