I recently watched former First Lady, now Dr. Dame Patience Jonathan, deliver an inspiring speech after receiving her honorary doctorate. It was more than a moment of celebration—it was a testament to growth, grace, and unwavering support.
I deeply commend former President Goodluck Jonathan for standing by his wife through every season, even when the world saw her flaws. Not every man has the strength or heart to support his wife when she’s imperfect in the public eye. Some walk away over superficial changes—aging, appearance, or struggle—but he chose to stand firm.
Goodluck Jonathan is the embodiment of an intentional husband. He honored her, celebrated her, and believed in her before the accolades ever came. Today, the world sees what he never stopped seeing—a woman evolving beautifully, rising from imperfection into influence and impact.
Change is the only constant in life. No one is immune to it. But in marriage, change should be embraced, not punished. We are called to complement each other’s weaknesses, not expose them. To build, not break.
True love doesn’t retreat when it sees limitations—it leans in. It grows. It transforms. And ultimately, it triumphs.
